Wonderfull pictures from Jürgen Doert!

Herr Doert cut out the horse from our picture and created a few images. He called this beautiful horse «Wirbelwind» = «Whirlwind».

"Wirbelwind im Frühling" (Wirbelwind in spring):
•   Open the image with the horse in Photoshop CS6 and copy it.
•   Convert the copied layer into a color drawing with Sketch 15.
•   Adjust the drawing made with Sketch 15 in Photoshop: Mode = Overlay, Opacity = 14%).
•   Combine both layers into one "flattened" image.

All other files were processed as follows:
•   Open the image with the horse in Photoshop CS6 and copy it.
•   Convert the copied layer into a color drawing with Sketch.
•   Adjust the drawing made with Sketch 15 in Photoshop: Mode = Color Dodge, Opacity = 14%.
•   Copy the drawing and choose the following settings: Treshold = 111, Mode = Overlay, Opacity = 10%.
•   Combine all layers into one "flattened" image.

These four images are "Przewalski’s Wild Horses," an endangered species that has been extinct in the wild since the late 1960's. All pictures were taken at The Wilds in eastern Ohio, USA (www.thewilds.org) during late summer. The Wilds breeds endangered species and is affiliated with the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium (Columbus, OH). Tours there are a wonderful place to find exotic species in the Midwest of the US. Since all of these horse pictures were shot in the heat of August, I used the PhotoShop "Rubber Stamp" to remove flies from some of the horse faces!

Background images are:

fall - Cheesequake Park, central New Jersey
winter - mountains of Costa Rica, on a farm
spring - The Wilds
summer - The Wilds

Autumn - horse image background was removed using SmartMask. Forest background was enhanced using HDR Factory for color, blended more smoothly and textured using Artwork. A duplicate of the HDR factory layer got textured & smoothed with Artwork, then the layer was faded to let the original texture show through partially. Horse was enhanced with HDR Factory, then ArtWork.

Winter was layered, using SmartMask to remove  background around the horse. Sketch was used to convert each layer to B/W, with different settings for each layer. The very front (grass) at the feet of the horse was faded a bit using the Photoshop dodge tool for mid-tones and darks. The farm background is near Monte Verde in Costa Rica. There was some rain & snow from Nature Art added to provide background texture and make it less stark.

Spring was enhanced with HDR Factory for "image color pop."

Summer was faded/desaturated using HDR Factory, then modified with AirBrush to add the "glow look." Capturing the look of "summer heat" depended on coloration, fading and blur.

All images were framed with ArtSuite  by adding a Plastic frame, decreasing size to 2% and selecting Invert and Fit to Frame. I typically do that for all web posted photos to make sure they don't fade into a page background.

Hi,
Wow! I got so involved in the contest using my Akvis programs I wound up with quite a few choices. I will have to submit them in sets (3 total). This contest has helped me in many ways in learning and using my Akvis programs creatively. Kudos to Akvis for the contest challenge with helping me & others in expressing their idea's and in the learning & creative experience It's really great to see all these wonderful entries. :)
I used: >Magnifier>Sketch>Chameleon>ArtSuite, AirBrush and SmartMask in my designs, I hope I list them properly for each category?

>Summer: used_Magnifier for bkgd. then SmartMask & Sketch on horse. _Did some color changes to the sky bkgd layers in PS._then framed in ArtSuite.

 my Set 3

 it's only 2 images:

#1_another version for Fall and #2_ is a repeat of my Winter entry in "Set#1" with the added "reflection action"_by panos used in Photoshop for a more overall interesting effect.

Had a lot of fun & got a lot out of using the akvis programs.  ;)
Good Luck to all!

>Fall _used Magnifier on leaves_AirBrush & Sketch on Pony & Leaves_Framed in ArtSuite.
>Winter_Used winter from set#1 but changed akvis logo color and added PS "action"effects for a different look.

Great job, sktcher11.

I really love your 'Summer Set1em.jpg'. It is a beautiful combo!

Also, it was a very clever design to throw the Akvis logo into the Christmas ornament in 'Winter Set2em.jpg'. Nice touch.

Hi imamormon,
Thank you for your comments. I had another version of the Summer Set1em with a more summer Red sky bkgd. and a larger darker color Artsuite frame border at 60%.  The first one is a more Stormy look to the sky with brown tones.
It eliminates a lot more of the border edges and the ground beneath the horse, putting more intensity & focus on the horse and of the light beam shining down on the horse.

This is the other option of Summer Set1em_ Dark Red Sky60. Hope you like it, I'd like to know your thoughts.

Thanks :)

Kat,
I have a question?
Are you going to actually print a calendar from the entries? If so, would you need 300dpi files for print? Web files are 72dpi, effecting the actual Quality of the artwork?
Or are you going to use AkvisMagnifier to remake them 300dpi?
Later, Sktcher11 :)
